A-Build Egypt Contributing to Grand Egyptian Museum

We are extremely honored to announce that A-Build Egypt has contributed to the Grand Egyptian Museum project located in the city of Giza! The Grand Egyptian Museum is an exciting new venture in Egypt that was built on the plateau of the pyramids in Giza and will showcase a collection consisting of King Tut’s tomb and tens of thousands of other rare and unique archeological finds and discoveries.

The museum will include exhibition galleries, a children’s museum, a storage center, a conference center with a 1,000 seat 3D cinema, retail outlets, restaurants and an ancillary building. One of the key features of the museum is a huge folded cover slab; an elegant 33,000 square meter articulated structure consisting of cascading panels with not one identical square meter built with extreme level of precision to ensure the perfect alignment of the underside of the roof and its suspended ceilings. Another of the key features is the translucent stone wall, made of alabaster, that makes up the front facade of the building.

A-Build Egypt’s scope of work on the project included the supply and application of waterproofing systems for underground, roof and wet areas. The waterproofing system for the underground areas was implemented using a torch applied system, while roof waterproofing system was implemented using a PU (polyurethane) foam spray machine. The total built-up area of the museum is about 167,000 square meters while the land area is 490,000 square meters. Construction on the Grand Egyptian Museum officially started on March 12, 2012 and is currently underway with a 2020 launch planned.
